LaZat Malaysian Cooking Class is held in Malay House at Jalan Seri Penchala, which is just outside the city centre of Malaysian capital. Hands-on classes on authentic Malaysian culinary are held throughout the week barring Sunday. The instructors are friendly, good in speaking English and explain cooking methods and ingredients in detail. The venue is furnished with custom-designed individual cooking stations and demonstration tables. A different menu is presented on each of the week. Students are asked to prepare a 3-course meal, typically comprised of appetizer, main course with side dish and dessert, on their own. It is both fun and learning as Malaysian culinary is fusion of Malay, Indian and Chinese flavours.

Morning Market Tour

Before getting hands-on in cooking, you’ll be brought to Taman Tun Market (also known as TTDI Market) that would take you through early market produce. You’ll come across seasonal fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and many other ingredients. Here, you’ll touch and even taste some of the ingredients that are essential in Malaysian cuisine. Feel free to ask any questions and you’ll get the answer from the friendly and experienced instructor.

Arriving at The School

The cooking school is housed in a local building situated in Penchala Hills with lush green surroundings. As you arrive at the cooking school, the rustic design on the exterior would please you.

Explanation

In a friendly and cozy environment, each of the student will be given a recipe book that outlines the detailed procedure of the dishes that will be prepared later. You’ll also learn about contemporary and traditional Malaysian culinary art here.

Ingredients and Preparation

The market tour in the morning gives you the basic understanding of the ingredients and when you see them again in the cooking class, you get some ideas of what to expect of the taste. In the preparation steps, the instructors teach you the correct ways to cut, pound and mix the ingredients in the right sequence.

Hands on Cooking

Having demonstrated the right way of Malaysian cooking by the instructor, it’s your turn to do the same. Things may get messy when you get your hands on the real stuff as this is the first time you learn Malaysian cooking. Now, you’ll get personalized help from the instructor.

Food Tasting

When you have done with the cooking, it’s time to give the 3-course meal a taste served in a simple and unpretentious setting in the typical Malaysian style in the upper level. Since you have got the right guidance, the dishes that you have just cooked should be close to what the authentic taste to be.

Lush Green Surroundings

The cooking school is surrounded by dense rainforests taking it away from the hub of the city. Driveways have been carved amid the rainforests so that there are trees and plants bordering the paths. Thick rainforest forms the backdrop of LaZat Malaysian Cooking Class.
