This is one among the ancient traditional monuments in Kuala Lumpur. The temple had been built in the year 1864. The peculiarity of the Sze Ya Temple lies in its selection of deities. The deities who are worshipped in the temple include two human figures who were chosen to be worshipped for their intelligence and merit. These deities have become the patron deities for the people of Kuala Lumpur. At one point of time, the temple had also been a community and religious centre of the Chinese residing in Kuala Lumpur. Festivals that are associated with the past era are celebrated by the devotees in the temple even to this day.
